MEMO: Altercations at High School on Thursday, January 5, 2023
Hitchcock ISD Communications

Dear Hitchcock ISD Community,

In our ongoing effort for transparency, we’d like to address situations that occurred at Hitchcock High School yesterday and clear up any confusion or misinformation being spread across social media and our community.

On Thursday, January 5, 2023, two separate altercations occurred at Hitchcock High School. The first incident occurred during “A” lunch and involved six students. A second, separate, incident occurred at the end of the school day between two students.

Both altercations were acted upon immediately by staff, administrators, and police officers on duty. Due to these quick actions, no students were injured. All students involved between the two incidents were reprimanded accordingly, including, but not limited to, arrests, citations, complaints, and school discipline. Due to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) the district cannot release the identity of the students involved.

The behavior displayed yesterday is unacceptable, will not be tolerated, and is in no way a reflection of the young people we are trying to mold here at Hitchcock ISD. As always, we understand the concerns surrounding all incidents, and want to assure everyone that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain a priority at all times.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Hitchcock ISD’s Chief of Police, Christopher Filidei at 409-316-6555 ext. 1701 or cfilidei@hitchcockisd.org.
